I am proud to announce that we are releasing our two game asset libraries as open source projects and making the source code for Alone openly available. This means that you will be able to see all the changes we make to Alone in real time, and use our assets freely.

  • The source code to Alone is now available on GitHub.
  • Our 3D asset library Simple Poly is now available under the CC-BY-4.0 license.
  • Our sound asset library Simple Sound is now available under the CC-BY-4.0 license.

The decision to release our work to the public comes from our dedication to education. People learn from examples, and for there to be examples to learn from there needs to be transparency. Our vision is to integrate people with autism into the workforce and a big part of that is teaching them real-world programming skills. Alone is a fun way for us to connect with the younger generation of programmers and artists that we work with. By making our assets open source we are setting it free for them to use after they are done working with us.

Current State of Development on Alone

We are currently workin on our first mammal, a small deer called the Grey Rhebok (Pelea capreolus).

We are also in the process of adding tools (axes and spears) to the game, allowing more interaction with the environment.

Last but not least we have started working on some broader concepts for the overall environment and what it could look like. A large part of this is creating concepts for the types of vegetation you can expect to find in southern Africa. Once we are happy with the concepts we will have a lot of modeling to do but this will result in a richer world with more variety.

That's it for today, have fun with our newly open sourced content and I will see you in the next one.
